Tanglewood Pet Motel is a Sole Proprietorship Currently there are no required licenses to run a boarding kennel in the State of Alabama , County of Houston , we are not in any city limits. However, we do buy a store front license in the even we get in incorporated into a city. We carry insurance that is specific to the pet industry. (copy enclosed).
We offer our services in the pet care industries exclusively; we do not sell tangible
products.
Our services include the caring of pets while their owners are away. We arrange for and transport animals to a grooming service if requested.
The building that is Tanglewood Pet Motel was built on our land as a family project using the wood harvested from our own land. The kennel room is a 20 x 20 feet, with 8 kennels, 4 on each side. Each kennel is approximately 5x5 feet with guillotine doors leading to a 5 x 10 out door run. The indoor kennels are separated by block 3 feet tall walls with 3 foot of chain link fence on top the walls. The outdoor runs are separated by 6 foot chain link fence. The gates on either end are locked for the safety of the dogs. The kennel room climate controlled with central heat and air conditioning. A central ceiling fans helps to keep the air circulated. Each side has 2 florescence lights. The floor is concrete. We provide comfy pads and blankets for the dogs to lay on.
In front of the kennel room is what we call the critter room. This room also can double as an office. This room is 25 x 15 feet. We have a stainless steel 3 tier Kitty Kondo that houses 12 kitties. We also have five small animal cages, along with a small refrigerator and a counter with information for our customer's i.e. business cards, brochures and other timely tips for best pet care. Phones are in each room along with adequate cabinets for storage space of food items, bowls, pads etc.

Tanglewood Pet Motel is 2 years old with a customer base of 196. Our business is profitable because we offer a service where the pet is king. We pamper our guests which in turn pampers the owner. Because we live here we can offer a service of after hour appointments for drop of and pick up of pets. Our location away from the city is attractive to our customers because of the lack of noise and fresh country air. The short drive to our business is not a liability but a positive feature.
Our hours are 8 to 5 Monday through Friday and 1 to 5 on Saturday and Sunday. With after hours by appointment.
My knowledge about the physical plant and the cleaning procedures, to ensure the good health of the dogs, comes from my association with Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc. (SEGDI) located in Palmetto Fl. I have attended several conferences on dog behavior through programs offered by SEGDI, lectures with Dr. Ian Fleming, Dog Behaviorist, and Ms . Carol Taylor Dog Behaviorist. I have attended obedience training classes and conformation showing classes with the Southeast Alabama Kennel Club (SEAKC). I have taught obedience classes with SEAKC. I have also gleamed much information from assorted sources of publications on dogs i.e. Dog Fancy Dog World, The Water Dog, Monks of St. Skete "How to raise an obedient dog" and several other assorted books on obedience training.
A combined 30 years in handling show dogs (Pugs, Boston Terriers and Chihuahuas); breeding, whelping, weaning, raising and training dogs of several breeds for show, obedience, couch (pet companion) and guides for the blind has set me in good steed as a pet kennel operator. Ten years in working closely with Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc, as a volunteer, has taught me much about the k-9 psychic and how to interact with them. I've raised 11 puppies to become guides for the blind; several of them are currently working. I also have raised numerous pet cats. Our public service is working towards no-more-homeless pets.
