I began Tanglewood Kennels with private money back in 1990 with 4 rustic outdoor kennels. Tannglewood Kennels began construction July 2002, with an inheritance from my parents, on a portion of the family owned three and a half acres. Tanglewood Pet Motel was opened, November 1, 2002. With kennel facilities for 24 dogs, 12 cats, birds in their own cages and small critter animals. Our business plan includes 5 phases for growth; a Dog Park. A Grooming service. A Garden of Memories . The expansion oft additional four boarding runs. A shipping/receiving service of pets for military families going or returning from over seas.
Tanglewood Pet Motel recognizes a need for a dog park in the community of Dothan. We have owned land available, adjacent to the motel. We will use %+- acres, fully fenced, with a pond and drinking fountain for both dogs and people. A feasibility study was conducted (September and October) which determined the community would welcome it with open arms. (Study enclosed) We will offer different levels of membership from doggy day care to one day use to unlimited supervised use. Our dog park will be the only one in the area. We believe the addition of our dog park is a vital part of our growth. As the need expands, we have ample ground hi which to expand the size of the park with minimal expense. I see this happening toward the 5 year mark.
It is inevitable that along with the dog park will come a need for a full time pet groomer. We have the room with bathing capability already in place. Thus the funds to create this expansion are negligible. It is planned that the groomer will work as an independent contractor. Tanglewood Kennel will provide the space, chemicals, towels and laundry. The groomer will have to provide his/her own tools.
Our plans for a Garden of Memories are for pet owners to buy a brick or a park bench or a statue in memory of their departed pet. A portion of proceeds to provide additional support to the local no-kill shelters. This will be a quiet natural park area where a supporter can visit and reflect and enjoy the solitude while remembering their pet
The expansion of 4 additional runs will not detract any area from the dog park. With the extra kennel we will include a utility and water closet. This will increase our ability to kennel up 36 dogs as apposed to the 24 we are capable of handling at present.
With so many military families in the area we want to be able to offer a service that no one else does. For families going over or returning home from an overseas assignment, we will board their pet and then ship it to a receiving point at their new assignment. Upon returning to the area we will pick their pet up at the airport and board it until they are ready to have their pet at home.
